LOVING THE ENVIRONMENT WHILE KEEPING YOUR OUTFIT ON POINT

With the trend on rising awareness on global issues gaining even more momentum, there is no more excuse for not doing our part to preserve – and ultimately, save – the environment and our Earth. From individuals in the society to the biggest industry giants, sustainability and environmental friendliness has become one of the largest and arguably most important aspects to consider in day-to-day activities. Each one of us is presumably already educated on how large our actions will be in the long-term and how even the smallest and most passive participation in a harmful activity would lead to a great negative impact on our environment. Having said this, here are some of the ways that even the most fashion-forward guy or gal can keep pursuing their calling of style in a way that minimizes the scale of resource expenditure large companies practice to satisfy our respective demands as consumers:

Embrace Eco-Friendly Labels

Almost anyone on the street recognizes Levi’s, Gucci, and Lacoste. But what about Cardigans and Jumpers from the likes of Woolovers, Delikate Rayne, or Amour Vert? The mystery of eco-friendly and locally sustainable brand names is slowly being stripped away by the use of social media and the eternally famous word of mouth. We just have to speed things up a little. Support local fashion brands with a penchant for using recyclable materials and internalizing a minimal waste policy. Aside from ensuring your participation, make sure to use social media sites and verbal promotion to spread the word on these brands. Who knows, the next person who likes your Facebook post just might think to order from that brand and do the same thing you just did.

The result? A domino effect of the best kind.

Timeless Is Best

Chasing after the latest trends and keeping up with the seasons might be fun and satisfy out short-term egos, but it also encourages a destructive cyclical behaviour that ends up helping nobody. Break free of this consumption-based chain by buying clothing that is timeless and classic. Having clothes that you can wear five years from now not only saves you money and time, but also encourages a culture of sustainability that producers will eventually have to cater to. Of course, you have to be mindful of your local climate and make sure to buy accordingly. Nobody wears flip-flops in a winter snowstorm.

Keep It Simple

Timeless outfits are great, but do you really need five identical little black dresses lining your closet? Unless you’re planning to clone yourself, there’s really no good reason for it. Keep your clothing items to a minimum and save space that can be used for more productive activities like hobbies and DIY projects. You might be even to convert that extra closet space as shelving for the other stuff you just can’t seem to find space for.
